National Contest

There are many ways for a Sommelier to grow professionally, one of these is certainly participating in a competition in which skills and the desire to emerge are shown and celebrated. Participating in a competition means for the Sommelier to test the knowledge acquired, to measure it with candidates who come from other regions, from other countries and from other continents. Competitions also have the important function of fostering exchanges between restaurateurs and hospitality professionals.

For those who practice a sport, the will and constant training can allow them to compete with other athletes. All competitions at national and international level are intended to proclaim a winner and a final ranking with the results of all participants. In sport, the winner in a discipline can get back into the game and compete again to regain the same title, even several times.

At the professional level of the sommellerie, although  we are following the same principle of identifying a winner for each category or for each title, the candidate who conquers this title will try  his   hand in the superior category to conquer another title. For example, the first classified in the competition for the Best Italian Sommelier, will try to win the title of Best Sommelier in Europe, or even the higher  Best Sommelier of the World. It is as if  those who have obtained an undergraduate diploma, do not return later for the same diploma but will attempt to obtain a superior degree, like a PhD.

Best Sommelier in Italy

It is the competition that qualifies ASPI’s Best Italian Sommelier at national level. Much sought after by young sommeliers because it offers them an important showcase for professional success, it takes place annually.
The theoretical and practical tests, focused on the different aspects of the profession, are aimed at identifying the most talented professionals , allowing them to display their talent but also to stimulate them to pay attention to detail, to the needed management  time and the improvement of methodologies and techniques typical of sommelier work.
