Why join ASPI

The advantages that are acquired by the ASPI and by paying the fee are as follows:

  1. Being part of an elite organization of “real” professionals, connected with the sommelier associations in the world;
  2. Access to the selections of international competitions for professionals (e.g. ASI Best Sommelier in Europe, ASI Best Sommelier in the World, etc.);
  3. ASPI registration card for the current year;
  4. Opportunity to participate in ASPI events (congress, best sommelier competition, wine fairs, etc.);
  5. Possibility of participation in international wine competitions sponsored by ASPI;
  6. Priority of enrolment in training and / or updating courses at Academies, Universities or Professional Institutes sponsored or approved by ASI (Business Studies Center of the University of Lugano, Catholic University of the Sacro Cuore of Piacenza, etc.);
  7. Facilitated path in exchanges between sommeliers from other countries.

Membership categories

It is the trainee who enrols in the first level of the ASPI course or the hotel student who attends the ASPI course  at in the school environment. The Aspiring Sommelier can enjoy the benefits provided for ASPI members (reduced admissions to events / fairs etc.).

The annual fee for the category is set at € 60.

It is the hotel student who, at the end of the school path divided into two levels, takes and passes the final exam. All junior sommeliers can participate in the Competition for the Best Junior Sommelier and compete to earn the title. The competition is held annually and welcomes students from all institutions that register for the event.

It is the aspiring sommelier who successfully completes the first two levels of the ASPI preparatory course for Sommeliers, passing the final exam. The qualification of Mastro Coppiere allows, for those who do not intend to continue on the path for Sommeliers, to take different paths, among them the qualifications for teaching courses.

He is the one who completes the ASPI training course or the one who works in the sector and is able to demonstrate it through his / her curriculum. The Sommelier has the right to enrol in the ASI International Exam to obtain a recognition that goes beyond national borders. Participation in the preparation day for the international exam, created by ASPI for its members, is free.

It is the sommelier who has been working in the profession for at least 15 years. By making a specific request, and by submitting an updated curriculum, the sommelier can be recognized as a Master Sommelier qualification by the ASPI Board of Directors.

He is the one who has dedicated his life to the profession of sommelier, so much so that he can be considered “master” for objective merits. All sommeliers over 65 years of age can enjoy benefit from this title. Each sommelier to whom the application for registration in this category will be accepted in this category will receive a card with the indication “Grand Master Sommelier since …”. The card does not expire.

The cost of the membership fee is paid by ASPI.
Together with the card, the member also receives the certificate of Grand Master Sommelier.
